My amazing wife just finished baking a double batch of my favorite cookies in the world: Spice cookies!
My mom made these every year for my brother and I at Christmas time and I have to say since she’s passed on I miss eating them… Never fear! My wife is here!
These are a very old recipe from my great grandmother’s recipe box and I thought there might be someone out there who might like to try this classic and seasonal recipe.
Momma Milo’s Spice Cookies
Mix thoroughly together:
- 3/4 cup soft shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup of molassses
- 2 cups of sifted flour
Sift it all together and stir in:
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1/45 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 3/4 tsp cloves
- 3/4 tsp ginger
Mix thoroughly and form into balls the size of small walnuts. Place about an inch and a half apart on a greased baking sheet and bake 10-12 min. at 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Take out of the oven and let sit for 3 minutes.

Sprinkle with confectioner’s sugar while warm!
P.S.
While you certainly don’t have to do it all in this order I recommend cooking them before eating them! Oh yeah and I dare you not to enjoy them!
