New site design

Well after a few years of my blog looking like it did I got tired of it so I decided to spruce it up a bit and give it an overhaul.

Since my brother updated our blogs last year to Wordpress, it had a lot of functionality built right into it that I unfortunately could not use due to the template I was using which was a hacked template merged over from my old Blogger.com days. But now that I am using one of their standard templates I can add all sorts of cool stuff.

I really like the new additions of the page headers at the top and I love the dual sidebars as well. it just seems a bit more modern to me. Plus it’s way more modular and easy to edit and update. Sure it doesn’t look my my Milowerx Studio’s website but eh, this is a more personal venue anyway. I hope you like it and if you don’t well, I’m most likely not gonna change it anyway!

Flip Book!

There is an awesome site called Flip Book where you can draw your own little cartoons. I drew one and it was quite easy to do. I believe it was done with Flash but it mimics the exact same thing as when you animate on the pages of a book and then flip then to get alittle animation sequence! Very cool! Go make a masterpiece!

Layouts Page and Storyboard page update!

Over the years I’ve collected quite a bit of paper and drawings. One of the things I have the most of is layouts from the various shows I’ve worked on over the years. I have made a small page with a bit of that work. there will be more to follow as I wade through the volumes of paper stacked in dusty reems around my studio.

Character Layout was a process that was used to get more character and personality from the studios overseas.

It was a “springboard” for the animators to help them “get” our sense of humor and understand our “in jokes”. It was also a way to keep “on mode” which means that the character essentially looks the same each frame.

We would blow up the storyboard frames and act out the character adding nuances and details that the storyboard artist missed or didn’t have time to put into the scene. We would listen to the episodes soundtrack and then make the pictures we drew match the voices on the tape. It really helped the films. The Simpsons and King of the Hill are still done this way today, I believe.

I have also updated the Storyboard page with three more Xiaolin Showdown storyboards and anothert short cartoon as well called Wild and Wooly.
