Being that I have two daughters who are just starting to get into wanting to see every movie under the sun, and being that the movie industry puts out more and more pg-13 films and tries to push the envelope and their agendas each year; I like to see reviews from people who have like-minded ideals. I’m not saying they have to be Christian at all but I sure would have liked to have known that Transformers was going to have whole scene about masturbation in it before I brought my 11 year-old daughter to see it. Yes it was funny but it brings up uncomfortable subjects that I am then forced to discuss which I don’t appreciate.
My oldest daughter likes to search the internet to see reviews for movies she can watch ( with the restricted page limit in Google’s prefs of course).
She seems to like Movie Mom but when I go there I find it to be really difficult to find what I am looking for so being the loud mouth that I am I sent them an email telling them so. Will they do anything about it? Perhaps but probably not. Are one of you going to show me the most amazing way to find out stuff like this without going to Movie Mom? Probably, which would be great as I really need to find a way to control what my daughters see.
Anyway, the letter is below.
Hello Yahoo People,
First let me say that I like Movie Mom and appreciate her service however, there are a few things seriousl;y lacking on your page.
You really need organize the page better to find the Movie Mom movie reviews easier. When you do a search in the search box it comes up with everything in Yahoo’s arsenal. For instance: a search for Mask turns up this.
But why would I WANT that if I am on the Movie Mom page, I want only her reviews to be displayed.
If I wanted everything on the web that Yahoo links to I would just go to yahoo.com and search don’t you think? You should at least have a list of all movies reviewed by Movie Mom. Right now you only have About Movie Mom, Age Guidelines, Tips About the Movies and Watching TV. Seems pretty simple to add a list catergory don’t you think? IF it’s on the page I couldn’t find it and honestly it seems like it should be right there with the others.
Seems simple enough but it doesn’t work that way on your site which I think you should change.
Want to see if she’s reviewed a certain movie? There’s no way (that I see) to search through her titles and there’s no advanced search to narrow the search either. You’d think Yahoo would get that. There are many movies out there and I’m sure she hasn’t reviewed them all but now that my daughter is 11 she wants to see all sorts of PG- 13 films and I love the fact that I can find a decent review from Movie Mom that pertains to me and her instead of just the typical critic’s reviews which I honestly think are biased in many ways.
If you can’t make the information accessible it’s pretty much pointless.
Many other sites have Movie Mom reviews as well and they don’t seem to do it any better so perhaps it’s the content itself?
All I can say is it would be stellar if I could go onto the site, search for a film and see Movie Mom’s review. You can’t do that as-is and if you can it’s not easily accessible in any way.
